In May 2008 the Jamaica guild of Artists will visit Toronto Canada for an exhibition. There I intend to show the “Red Flame Hibiscus” depicted below.
The intense preoccupation with a red rose hibiscus who lives at the entrance to my home helps me in this great adventure that I call career. As a teacher she creates the most unexpected color, shapes and lines. Though the title of this painting speaks to color, it’s more the line and form studied here. The petals fold in an unending journey from center to final petal, creating amusing and mystical images of nature. Hibiscus Red Flame perhaps not only talks to the flower but to my mood. I let my self be taken away (captivated) and totally wrapped in this rendition of my Red Rose Hibiscus who lives at my front door.
“It is, as is expected of you with these nature (or perhaps floral) subjects, visually awakening and colourfully arresting. It shows clean thinking; clear vision and a kean sense of perception. Certainly.. another masterpiece… to have and to hold… Yours whatever, Wil-a (Will A. Pluck, Bahamas tribune writer and social critic).
