Sharon Fox-Mould has studied and painted many Red Ginger specimens. These works are very popular with her patrons. As a result we have few images to show here.
The red ginger’s botanical name is Alpinia purpurata. It is also called ostrich plume and pink cone ginger. The plant is native to Malaysia but it also grows wild in Jamaica near streams and rivers. The red ginger has flowers on long brightly colored red bracts. They look like the bloom, but the true flower is the small white flower on top.
